1938 – 2015

NORWAY — Richard A. Treadwell, 76, of Oxford, passed away Monday, May 4, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

He was born in Minot, on Oct. 8, 1938, a son of Cecil and Florence (Hesketh) Treadwell and was educated in Minot schools.

He married Beverly Noyes on Sept. 6, 1958. She died on June 10, 2001.

For most of his life, he was a diesel mechanic and was employed by Pioneer Plastics for over 30 years and retired from there in 1996. In previous years, Richard also served as a volunteer fireman, a part-time police officer with Oxford Police Department and a deputy sheriff with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department.

He was a member of the Down East Country Music Association and played the guitar. He volunteered with the Community Kitchen at the Progress Center in Norway, and was an avid woodworker, making rocking horses and potty chairs. He also enjoyed camping with his family.

Besides his wife, Richard is predeceased by a brother, Cecil Treadwell Jr. Surviving are his son, Michael Treadwell of Pennsylvania.; three daughters, Erlene “Twink” Smith and her husband, Norman, of Oxford, Elizabeth “Liz” Blaquire and her husband, Charles, of Norway, and Tina Hanscome and her husband, Frederick, of Minot; one brother, Alwyn Treadwell of New Gloucester; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a thank-you to the staff at Market Square Health Care Center, especially to Heather and Karen for their care given to Richard. Also, a very special thank-you to Dr. Harbage for his outstanding care.
