PORTLAND (AP) — The Maine Supreme Court has ruled that the developers of a failed Wiscasset housing project owe the town nearly $846,000 in back property taxes.

National RE/source, a company specializing in the redevelopment of old industrial sites, purchased the 33-acre Mason Station power plant and surrounding property in 2004.

The Connecticut-based group intended to build housing, retail, entertainment and a 239-slip marina on the land.

The project never materialized and the company failed to keep up with its municipal tax payments. Only two spec houses were built.

Maine’s highest court ruled last week that a Lincoln County judge was correct in his 2013 decision that Mason Station LLC failed to respond in a timely manner and offered no excuse after the town filed a complaint against the owner for taxes owed.
