LEWISTON — The Lewiston & Auburn Veterans Council’s Memorial Day Parade will step off at Kennedy Park at Chestnut Street at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23.
The parade will move down Lisbon Street to Main Street, across Longley Bridge, around Platz Plaza and back across the Longley Bridge, ending at Heritage Park at Lincoln and Main streets in Lewiston.
The memorial ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. with guest speakers, an invocation, singing of the national anthem, cannon fire, taps and reading the names of council members who have passed away in the past year.
The council will also unveil the 27th memorial stone etched with the names of local veterans. The stone also commemorates the U.S. Navy Seabees.
The council will also unveil and dedicate a bench in memory of longtime member and veterans’ advocate Jirard Der Boghosian, who passed away last year.
During the parade and ceremony, motorists should expect traffic delays and are urged to use caution.
