RUMFORD — A vote on the Regional School Unit 10 budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Mountain Valley High School by district residents.

The proposed spending package for 2015-16 is $36.71 million. This first of two votes on the proposal will allow residents to act on individual articles and change one or more, if a majority agrees.

The final figure will be acted on at the polls in all 12 district towns Tuesday, June 9.

The proposed budget is about 1.5 percent more than this year.

The 2015-16 budget cut 44 full- and part-time positions. Reinstated in the proposed budget are half-time music, art, physical education, library services, guidance and social work positions and some administrative hours and special education.

Local assessments for Hanover will go up about $800 and for Roxbury, about $25,700.

Rumford’s share is expected to drop by nearly $108,000; Mexico by $26,300; Peru, $57,200; Byron, $39,300; Buckfield, $39,800; Hartford, $21,300; Sumner, $9,300; Dixfield, $54,800; Canton, $32,300; and Carthage, $10,300.

About 45 percent of the proposed figure would be raised locally, 52 percent through general purpose aid to education from the state, and 3 percent from miscellaneous resources.
