LEWISTON — Senior first baseman Carter Chabot lined a two-run double down the right field line to lift Lewiston to a 5-4 walk-off victory over Cony in KVAC baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Devils (4-10) led 2-1 from the third inning to the seventh when the Rams (8-6) scored three runs to suggest doom and gloom. But Lewiston bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to notch just their fourth win on the season.
Senior starting pitcher, Kyle Ullrich, pitched five strong innings as Michael Wong picked up the win in relief for Lewiston. Freshman catcher Brock Belanger contributed two hits along the way.
Senior catcher Tayler Carrier had an in-the-park home run in the second inning for Cony.
Oxford Hills 5, Hampden 3
PARIS — Senior pitcher Aiden Heikkinen nailed down an RBI double in the fifth inning for the eventual game-winning run as Oxford Hills oared their way to a 5-3 victory over Hampden in KVAC baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
Chris Burns pitched two innings in relief for the Vikings (9-5) to collect the win.
Junior third baseman Jackman Gilmore had two singles, including one in the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2 for the Broncos (4-6).
Mountain Valley 7, Telstar 1
BETHEL — Tim Fitzgerald hurled seven innings of one-hit baseball Tuesday as Mountain Valley hustled to a 7-1 rout over Telstar in an MVC matchup.
Josh Mason and Ian Austin led the Falcons (7-6) with two hits and two RBIs each. Mountain Valley jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first frame and was never challenged.
Tanner Wheeler worked all seven frames for the Rebels (3-12) and suffered the loss.
Winthrop 8, Mt. Abram 1
SALEM — Jacob Hickey scattered four hits in seven innings of work and drew ample run support as Winthrop hustled to a 8-1 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC baseball action.
Dakota Carter led the Ramblers (11-2) with two hits and two RBIs, while Ben Allen and Ben Caprara also belted out two hits.
Bob White worked the first four frames for the Roadrunners (3-11) and was tagged with the loss.
Waterville 10, Leavitt 0
WATERVILLE — Dalton Wood scattered four hits and drew ample run support Tuesday as Waterville overpowered Leavitt, 10-0, in a KVAC baseball tilt.
The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first frame and were never challenged. Chey Phelps led the charge for Waterville with two hits, including an RBI triple in the first. Ben Cox also belted out a pair of hits in a well-rounded offense.
Mitchel Davis was tagged with the loss after working the first two frames for Leavitt, while Chad Morin pounded out a double.
Softball
Edward Little 2, Mt. Blue 0
FARMINGTON — Sarah Hammond scattered three hits, had 10 strikeouts in seven innings and received adequate run support as Edward Little edged Mt. Blue, 2-0, in a KVAC softball matchup Tuesday.
Molly Murray led the Red Eddies (10-4) with three hits, including an RBI single in the second frame. Edward Little scored again in the fourth inning on an infield throwing error.
Rachelle Bator provided the only threat in the fourth for the Cougars (5-9) as she reached base on a single and advanced to second on an error. Bator moved to third on an infield groundout yet was cut down between third and home on a rundown.
Hall-Dale 2, Oak Hill 1
FARMINGDALE — Morgan Rush belted an RBI single in the sixth frame to give Hall-Dale a narrow 2-1 victory over Oak Hill in softball action Tuesday.
Rush, Eva Shepherd and Gabby Brown led the Bulldogs (11-2) with two hits each. Becca Ackerson scattered five hits in seven innings to notch the win.
Iris Abbott and Michaela Nadeau led the Raiders (8-6) with two hits apiece.
Telstar 7, Mountain Valley 6
BETHEL — The Telstar Rebels were down to their final out when Becca Howard launched a two run triple into the gap to score the tying and game-winning run in the 7-6 victory over the Mountain Valley Falcons in softball action.
The Falcons (6-7) took the 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh as they scored three runs. The Rebels committed two errors in the inning. Sadie Ellsworth also had a triple for the Rebels (12-2).
Karen Flaherty had three hits for Mountain Valley, while Sam Higley had a pair.
Oxford Hills 8, Hampden 2
PARIS — Senior second baseman Annika Kahkonen pounded out two triples and a single to power Oxford Hills to an 8-2 victory over Hampden in KVAC softball action Tuesday afternoon.
The Vikings (10-4) struck first with three runs in the first inning. Hannah Kenney contributed a triple and two singles for Oxford Hills. Abby Lord plated the first of only two Bronco runs with a triple in the top of the third inning.
Leavitt 12, Waterville 0
WATERVILLE — Juniors Angela Daigle and Katilyn DeBlois had back-to-back home runs in the third inning as Leavitt stung Waterville with a 12-0 victory in KVAC softball action Tuesday afternoon.
Daigle launched a second home run in the five-run fourth inning to plate another three RBIs for the Hornets (10-3).
The catcher, Coby Dangler, had two of the Panther’s (0-13) three hits.
Cony 17, Lewiston 16 (OT)
LEWISTON — Lewiston rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the winless squad into overtime, but the Blue Devils still came up short as Cony survived a 17-16 outing in KVAC softball action Tuesday afternoon.
The Rams (11-3) scored six runs in each of the first and fourth innings. Arika Brochu chipped in with three hits to contribute to her mound victory.
Freshman catcher Lexi Poulin blasted a pair of home runs for the Blue Devils (0-14).
Winslow 13, Spruce Mountain 4
JAY — Paige Veilleux crushed a bases-loaded double for three runs in the seventh inning as Winslow sank Spruce Mountain 13-4 in KVAC softball action Tuesday afternoon.
Kaylee Leclerc belted a two-run double in the first inning for the Phoenix (3-10). But Spruce Mountain only managed to spray a series of singles over the next six frames.
The Black Raiders (11-2) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second inning and maintained the lead throughout.
Mt. Abram 12, Winthrop 0
SALEM — Olivia Ryan pitched a three-hit shutout as Mt. Abram thumped Winthrop 12-0 in MVC softball action Tuesday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (6-8) scored runs in each frame of the abridged five-inning game, including five tallies in the third inning. Ryan contributed three hits to compliment her mound effort.
The pitcher, Ashley Dunham, gave up 14 hits as the Ramblers (2-11) also committed four errors.
Girls’ lacrosse
Edward Little 10, Oxford Hills 8
PARIS — Senior attackman Francesca Haines netted four goals to lead Edward Little to a 10-8 overtime victory over Oxford Hills in girls’ lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Allyssa Hanley tied the game at 8-8 with 5:42 remaining in regulation to send the contest into overtime for the Vikings (2-8).
The Red Eddies (3-7) employed a patient offense that succeeded for a pair of goals in the overtime frame.
