Police said a Winthrop man was arrested Wednesday night after leading police on a chase and slamming his Corvette into a woman’s home on Annabessacook Road.

Edwin Munson, 67, was arrested on charges that included criminal threatening, criminal mischief, terrorizing, assault and eluding police. He was being held Thursday at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.

Police said Munson crashed his car into the home at 157 Annabessacook Road as the chase was ending. Officers had to use a Taser and chemical spray to get him into custody, police said.

State police said their involvement started at about 10:30 p.m. when Munson was reportedly acting in an irrational and threatening manner at a Litchfield home.

Responding troopers Seth Allen and Clayton Peckham located the Corvette and began chasing it along Route 126, police said. Speeds reached 80 mph.

“At one point, Munson did a 180 (degree) turn and rammed Allen’s cruiser and then struck Peckham’s,” Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release. “The troopers were not injured, but Allen’s cruiser was demolished,” he said.

The chase was called off at that point, police said, and other law enforcement personnel were notified. Winthrop police later located the Corvette and once more, a chase was underway. Police said Munson crashed into the home a short time later.

Police said Munson will face additional charges as their investigation continues.
