BIDDEFORD (AP) — The Biddeford City Council has elected not to suspend the city’s police chief and deputy chief amid a sex assault investigation involving a former officer.
The council voted 6-2 in favor of not suspending Police Chief Roger Beaupre and Deputy Police Chief Joanne Fisk at an executive session Monday.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating claims of sexual assault involving a former Biddeford police officer and a teenage boy from the late 1990s. Beaupre and Fisk are not charged with any wrongdoing.
A man who alleges he was abused by the former officer more than a decade ago and others have called on the council to suspend the two at several community meetings.
Beaupre and Fisk did not attend the meeting.
