Sampson veterans to meet

LEWISTON — Veterans and their guests who were stationed at the Sampson base will meet for lunch at noon on Thursday, June 11, at the Chickadee, 1422 Lisbon Street.

The Sampson base was Sampson Naval Training Center from 1942 to 1945 and Sampson Air Force Base form 1950 to 1956.

All Veterans in that Korean time zone are welcome to attend.

Author to keynote Jewish Life Conference

WATERVILLE — Lois Lowry, Newbery Medal-winning author of “Number the Stars” and “The Giver,” will deliver the keynote address, “Telling Our Stories to One Another,” at the second annual Maine Conference for Jewish Life at Colby College Friday through Sunday, June 12 to 14.

Other conference highlights will include lectures by rabbis from around the country and by Colby faculty, a panel discussion with state senators on Jews in public service and family events such as art, music and dancing.

Beth Israel Congregation Director of Education Melanie Weiss and Temple Beth El’s Rabbi Erica Asch joined Isaacs in coordinating the conference.

Auburn VFW to host dance

AUBURN — VFW Post 1603 on 588 Minot Ave. will host a dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 12.

The event is open to the public, and the DJ is Chad Burke.

East Monmouth Church to hold benefit yard sale

EAST MONMOUTH — The East Monmouth Church will hold a benefit yard sale on Saturday, June 13, at East Monmouth Church on Route 135.

The proceeds will go toward the church.

The sale will include items such as sporting goods, books, tools, jewelry and children’s toys.

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church will host a dessert social and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at 439 Park Ave.

The proceeds will be used to help with medical expenses for a church member.

Center announces Fern Walk

BOWDOINHAM — The Merrymeeting Arts Center is announcing a Fern Walk from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, lead by ecologist Andy Cutko.

The fern walk will take place beginnning at 555 Browns Point Road in Bowdoinham. Nine species of fern will be introduced on an easy, level walk.

AUBURN — The Androscoggin County Republican Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, at the Community Room, second floor of Auburn Hall, 60 Court St.

The Auburn City Republican Committe will meet prior to this meeting at 6 p.m.

Winners on June 1 were: first, Nancy Farmer and Luke Merry; second, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; third/first in B, Connie and Ron Reynolds; fourth/second in B/first in C, Donna Bartlett and Claire Lyons; fifth/second in C, Cindy Kirchherr and Jim Krainin.

Winners on June 2 were: first, Les Buzzell and Misha Tomic; second/first in B, Norma and Rick Verrill; third, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; fourth/second in B, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; fifth, Richard Balian and Tom Goodwin; first in C, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second in C, Ellie and George Wigton.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is guaranteed and all bridge players are welcome.
