POLAND — The Regional School Unit 16 School Committee will meet Monday to decide on a new budget proposal, after voters rejected a $20.7 million spending plan Tuesday.

The final tally was 240-255. The budget passed in Mechanic Falls, 80-72, and in Minot, 56-49. Poland voters rejected it, 104-134.

The budget was about $750,000 more than this fiscal year. It would have raised taxes on properties assessed at $100,000 by $39.42 in Mechanic Falls, by $46.56 in Minot, and by $44.33 in Poland.

The School Committee must present another budget for a public hearing and vote and ratification at the polls in all three towns.

The committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the Poland Regional High School library.
