FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is accepting registrations for summer youth programs.
Swim lessons will be offered through Mommy and Me, the Wading Pool Program and the Sumner P. Mills Program. For ages 2 and 3, Mommy and Me or Daddy and Me offers youngsters an introduction to water and safety. It is held at the Hippach Field wading pool.
The Wading Pool program, for ages 2 through 7, teaches basic swim techniques and will be held in two sessions, June 22-July 16 and July 20 to Aug. 13.
The Sumner P. Mills Program offers continuing swim instruction in the swimming pool at the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center for ages 8 to 18. This is also held in two sessions, June 29 to July 14, and July 20 to Aug. 4.
Registrations for all swim programs begin at 9 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the Farmington Community Center for Farmington residents and Farmington child care providers only. Registrations taken on June 16 and 17 allow Farmington children and those from out of town the opportunity to fill class vacancies.
* The Hippach Field Playground program runs from June 22 through Aug. 14 and is open for children ages 7 to 10. It provides structured and free play opportunities and is held at the Hippach Field. The program is offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
* Mountain Biking Challenge for ages 12-18 is offered June 29 through July 2. Participants ride local trails from 9 a.m. to noon.
* Youth Self Defense for ages 7 to 12 is offered on Thursdays from June 25 to Aug. 6. Classes meet at the Farmington Community Center every Thursday morning for six weeks from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
* High School Volleyball Camp takes place from July 6 to 9 for students entering grades 9 to 12. The 4-day camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Farmington Community Center.
* Tennis Instruction for ages 7 to 12 will be offered at the Hippach Field Tennis Courts each Tuesday and Thursday morning. Classes offered in two sessions, July 7 to 23, and July 28 to Aug. 13. Ages 7-9 meet from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; ages 10-12 meet from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
* Elementary Lacrosse for ages 9 to 12 meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 13 to July 29 in the Little League Field at Hippach Field.
* Play Ball for ages 6-9 helps youngsters develop their baseball skills. It will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 6 to 22 at the Hippach Little League field.
* Field Hockey Camp for ages 9 to 11 will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. starting July 7 in the Little League Field at Hippach and continue on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until July 23.
* Backyard Sports Camp for ages 10-13 takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 28 to Aug. 13 at Hippach Field. The camp includes sports such as flag football, basketball, kickball, wiffle ball and pickle ball/
* Pre-Season Soccer Camp takes place from Aug. 3 to 6 and is devoted to skill development for ages 6 to 12. The camp is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Hippach Field.
* Make the Picture! Photography Program, a three-day workshop, for ages 11 to 14 takes place July 20, 22 and 24 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Community Center. By the end of the program, children should have a good understanding of what it takes to make a good picture.
