LIVERMORE — The Livermore Board of Selectpersons on Monday, June 15 elected Peter Castonguay as chairman and Megan Dion as vice chairman.

The selectboard discussed the possibility of setting term limits for appointments to various town committees.

Administrative Assistant Carrie Castonguay said, “If it was a short-term commitment, more people might be willing to try (serving).”

Peter Castonguay said, “There’s not a lot of people knocking on doors wanting to serve.”

Setting term limits might result in the loss of members who have served for several years, he said. People could be asked if they want to stay on, at which time they could resign and new people appointed then.

The board voted to approve all current members of town committees.

Highway foreman Roger Ferland said he received a complaint about a downed tree hanging over the Brettun’s Pond beach. He said about three-quarters of the tree is held up by other trees.

Peter Castonguay said the town should have the tree taken care of and other board members agreed.

Ferland also spoke about a culvert on the property of Roger St. Pierre on River Road that has settled and moved several times. The property, on the right side of the road, is a little more than a mile from the Route 4 intersection.

Water was supposed to be diverted away from the road, but Ferland said he isn’t sure that has been done.

It was agreed that Ferland will talk with the property owners about diversion efforts and the town taking down a maple tree to open the road up. That action might save the road.

In new business, Dion suggested moving the time of selectboard meetings from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the board voted to do so.

Peter Castonguay said the board needs to start developing a plan for the sand/salt shed. The board has two months to submit a plan in order to qualify for partial reimbursement of costs through the Municipal Sand/Salt Shed Facility program. He wondered if submitting that plan now rather than waiting until August would result in an earlier deadline to have the project finished and approved.

Carrie Castonguay will check.

After discussing possible models for the shed, the board was encouraged to visit towns that have put up sand/salt sheds. Leeds, Hartford, Buckfield, Fayette and Augusta are among the towns suggested.

The board also discussed the pros and cons of looking for a new site to build the shed. Dion said the town should consider having the town garage and sand/salt shed in one location.
