AUBURN — The Androscoggin Historical Society elected board members for the 2015-16 season at its annual meeting. The event was held May 26 at the United Methodist Church in Auburn and featured two well-known local authors — retired Maine Game Warden John Ford and retired Maine State Trooper Mark Nickerson. Both told stories and anecdotes from their days on the force.

The annual meeting was preceded by social time that featured book tables and displays of recent acquisitions. The meal was prepared by the women of United Methodist Church of Auburn. Outgoing President Betty Young thanked Joline Froton for her continued service as administrative assistant and Amy Young for her cleaning services. Treasurer David Chittim presented a report on the society’s finances and urged the society to increase membership and seek donations. Chittim also announced the award of “Volunteer of the Year” to Rachel Haines, former vice president at Auburn Savings Bank, for her “skill and expertise behind the scenes, keeping the society’s books, balancing its ledgers and verifying its monthly bills.”

David Young, chair of the Membership Committee, presented the slate of nominees which included: Douglas Hodgkin, president and newsletter editor, Beverly Robbins, vice president, Merton Ricker, recording secretary, David Chittim, treasurer, Christopher Beam, Bruce Hall, John Henderson, Curtis Jack, Ruby Jones, Cathy McDonald, Rick Morris, Daniel Philbrick, Maurice Poliquin, Barbara Randall, Marilyn Wilkinson, David Colby Young and Elizabeth Young.
