ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — A man who fell approximately 60 feet in the park Friday morning has been rescued and brought to a Bangor hospital for a medical evaluation, according to park personnel.
Few details were available Friday morning, but according to park dispatchers, the man is 32 years old and fell at Otter Cliffs, a popular rock climbing spot, where the ocean comes up directly to the bottom of the cliffs. He was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, dispatchers said.
Park officials are trying to determine whether the man had been rock climbing when the accident happened around 8 a.m., according to a park dispatcher.
The man was rescued from the bottom of the cliffs by Coast Guard personnel, who responded to the incident, officials said. In addition to park rangers and the Coastal Guard, Mount Desert Island Search and Rescue and Bar Harbor Fire Department also sent personnel to the scene.
