NORWAY — Four local authors from Maine Authors Publishing of Rockland will attend the Norway Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, for book signings hosted by Books N Things.

The authors attending are Kelly Brooks-Bay of Orrington, “The Rainbow Pants”; Jean M. Flahive of South Portland, “Railroad to the Moon”; Kathy Eliscu of Westbrook, “Not Even Dark Chocolate Can Fix This Mess”; and Anne B. Gass of Gray, “Voting Down the Rose.”

“The Rainbow Pants” is an imaginative and vibrant children’s book where the main character is filled with colorful feelings. Peter T. Peacock gets to answer the daily question, “What will I wear today?” based on his emotions.

In the young adult book “Railroad to the Moon,” runaway slave Elijah is trapped between new found freedom and a promise. He is led by hands both seen and unseen to a destiny of which he could only dream. Weaving historical realities into a work of fiction, this is a tale of friendship, loyalty and a solemn promise.

Somewhere in Maine, a middle-aged woman is having a serious temper tantrum. In “Not Even Dark Chocolate Can Fix This Mess,” Tink Casawill is drowning in family and work demands, hormones, a fiancé oblivious to another woman’s flirtations, and … her doctor tells her to cut out caffeine. (WHAT?!?) While attempting to do a good deed, Tink’s life spins out of control and now, “Not Even Dark Chocolate Can Fix This Mess!”

“Voting Down the Rose” is a lively account of Maine native Florence Brooks Whitehouse’s efforts to win women voting rights in the decisive final years of the campaign, 1914–1920. Considered radical for picketing the White House, Florence helped win women suffrage against a backdrop of conservative views of women’s roles, political intrigue, World War I and the 1918 influenza epidemic.
