ANDOVER — Selectmen voted 2-1 Tuesday night to send the first of 12 monthly payments to the new Andover School Department’s financial administrator.
Selectmen Jane Rich and Jim Adler voted to pay the $107,317.81. Selectman Keith Farrington dissented; he wanted more clarification from department officials.
Earlier this year, the school board subcontracted all of the school’s financial matters, such as payroll and accounts receivable, to School Administrative District 51 in Cumberland. According to department officials, the town is to send checks to the school’s financial administrator by the 20th of each month.
After Adler read the amount, Rich motioned to pay the money, but there was no spoken second on the motion before Adler asked if there was any discussion.
“I don’t agree, but I think that we’re getting the cart put before the horse,” Farrington said. “I understand that it’s money.”
“I would like more clarification, definitely, on the disbursement of the education finances,” Adler said. “But I also feel that at this juncture, we need to get this money into the accounts so things can start, so for that reason, I am going to say yes to this.”
“And me, too,” Rich said.
Adler closed discussion and asked for the vote.
Among other financial matters, the board also voted to pay Andover Water District $6,240 for hydrants, Med-Care Ambulance $1,231.50, and the Maine state treasurer $1,095.50.
