Professional violinists and Rangeley seasonal residents the Maceks join fellow musicians from Washington, D.C. and New York in this chamber music performance featuring the clarinet quintet by American composer Bernard Herrmann.
Best known for his many film scores, especially his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock in films such as “Vertigo” and “North by Northwest,” Herrmann was also a composer of symphonic and chamber music. This beautiful work, also known as “Souvenir de Voyage,” is very much in the style of these soundtracks, combining a yearning romanticism with uneasy tension.
Also on the program are works by Mozart, Puccini, and Haydn.
The Maceks are natives of the Washington, D.C. area and perform regularly at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap Park for the Performing Arts and many other D.C. area musical venues. They will be performing with four colleagues and friends who will be visiting with them in Rangeley: Elizabeth Field, violin; Morrie Sherry, Clarinet; Uri Wassertzug, viola; and Kristen Wojcik, cello.
