PORTLAND — Portland police are investigating an armed robbery on Riverside Street. Police say two black males robbed the Family Dollar at 752 Riverside Street at gunpoint around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say the men entered the store and approached a clerk with a handgun, demanded money and then fled on foot.
Police attempted a foot search with a K-9 unit, but didn’t find the suspects nearby. “We had South Portland police come over with their K-9 unit and we attempted a track based upon where witnesses say they had run, that was unsuccessful,” Lt. Gary Hutcheson, Portland Police Department, said.
Police say the cashiers weren’t hurt, but they were shaken up.
Currently, police don’t believe the Riverside Street robbery was connected to an earlier armed robbery near Popham Street. That armed robbery happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say three white males pulled a gun and robbed another person on Taft Avenue, just off Brighton Avenue. Part of Popham Street was shut down for more than an hour while police searched for the suspect.
Police are trying to get a hold of surveillance video. The investigation is ongoing.
