JAY — The Jay Village Water District issued a boil-water order until further notice.

Only customers on Ludden Drive, School Bus Road, Emery Street and Main Street near the Post Office who lost water need to boil it. The water line broke as a result of the Construction on Route 4 late Thursday afternoon.

Once water returns, the district is required to bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E. coli and coliform bacteria. The district will make an announcement when customers can stop boiling water.

Superintendent Mike Wells said affected customers should boil their water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to use for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.

District representatives will post updates on the district’s website, www.jaywaterdistrict.com.
