MECHANIC FALLS — A mail delivery truck and a car collided around 11 a.m. Saturday on Route 11 in front of Boyd’s Auction Barn.
According to Mechanic Falls police Lt. Paul Harrison, Clarence Taylor, 71, of Pigeon Hill Road, was following Jon Staples, 38, of Auburn, heading west. Staples, who was driving the postal truck, slowed and Taylor went to pass him on the left, thinking the postal truck was stopping to deliver mail on the right.
Staples, who was turning left into Boyd’s driveway, didn’t see Taylor coming up beside him and the two vehicles collided. It was unknown if Staples used his turning signal.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Poland Fire and Rescue, also on the scene, treated and released the drivers and said there were no injuries.
Taylor was visibly shaken. “It knocked the wind right out of me. I didn’t know if I’d be able to walk, but I’m okay; my blood pressure didn’t even go up,” he said.
