WILTON — A Wilton woman faces charges after refusing to stop for an officer, speeding away and then refusing to get out of her car when ordered in an incident that occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday.
She also faces a charge of endangering the welfare of a child because her approximately six-month-old baby was with her, Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.
Sharron Wallace, 28, was arrested on charges of refusing to stop for an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a child.
After Wilton police officer Derek Daley started to respond to a domestic complaint, police received a call that Wallace had left the residence and the caller described the vehicle she was driving.
Sgt. Chad Abbott found the vehicle near Steve’s Market on Depot Street. As Abbott approached the vehicle, Wallace backed up and almost hit him. Wallace informed him she wasn’t going to stop and sped off with the baby in the car, Wilcox said. Abbott was not sure if Wallace saw where he was when she backed up.
Abbott knew who she was. After he chased her for about a quarter mile, he let her go and met her back at the residence when she returned, Wilcox said. But then she told officers that she was not going to get out of her vehicle when they ordered her to.
The Department of Health and Human Services was called in to help with the baby, Wilcox said.
Bail for Wallace was set at $100 cash Monday during an initial appearance in court, according to an officer at the Franklin County Detention Center.
