100 years ago, 1915
Lewiston school-houses are being generally overhauled and put into suitable condition. during this summer vacation. In the Crowley building a now heating and ventilating plant has been installed and similar plants will soon be in place at the Barkerville, Lisbon road and Webster road buildings. Sanitary improvements are being made.

50 years ago, 1965
The Hillcrest Poultry Co., Lewiston, was given a pat or the back by a hand from across the sea today. The big compliment came from a top man in the poultry industry in Ireland who, along with two others from his country, is touring the poultry industry in this country. He’s Michael Doyle, president of Irish Poultry Industries, a firm which supplies two out of every three chickens consumed in that country. Doyle told the Hillcrest officials that he considered their plant to “be the foremost poultry firm in the United States.”

25 years ago, 1990
Forty-four men and women competed in the ninth annual Pottle Hill road run, as Mechanic Falls Homecoming Week events moved toward the climactic parade. Marchers, bands and floats proceeded through the town center to the Municipal Building. Added to the schedule was a fireman’s muster at 2 p.m. Competing teams entered from Sabattus, Wales, Oxford and Mechanic Falls. The events were wet hose, dry hose, water battle and a mystery contest. Also on the grounds was a petting zoo. Activities included, for children under 12, a 1-mile fun run down Main Street.
