KINGFIELD — Wilderness Medical Associates, with Franklin Search & Rescue, will host a Wilderness First Aid class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3 and 4, at the Kingfield Fire Department. The cost is $199.
Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life-support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and back country experience.
The course will cover topics such as lightning injuries, hypothermia, wounds and burns, fractures and the circulatory and respiratory systems.
The course is scheduled for 16 hours of instructional and practice time. Upon successful completion, students will receive certification in Wilderness First Aid and Adult CPR.
Successful completion with certification is based on 100 percent attendance, satisfactory performance on homework assignments and written quizzes, demonstrated proficiency with practical skills and a successful grade on a final written exam.
Participants must be at least 16 to complete the course. Those younger than 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian.
