NORWAY — The Planning Board has approved a building permit for Fare Share Co-op to construct an 8- by 10-foot addition that will house compressors.
The compressors, which power refrigerators and freezers, are currently in the building’s basement at 443 Main St., General Manager Emmy Andersson said.
The current basement placement not only makes the units hot at times, but vibrates certain areas of the main floor, she said.
“It should reduce the humming and vibration and make it a little more efficient,” Andersson said, adding that the noise and movement can be “annoying.”
The permit, approved on Aug. 27, will allow the group to move the compressors to the building addition, but a decision on that move is pending cost estimates.
Fare Share, which has been in business since 1978, has more than 350 member families, but the public at large is also welcome to shop at the co-op. Fare Share is a cooperative business — its members own it and it is overseen by a board of directors who are elected from the membership.
