BETHEL — Two women suffering from chronic Lyme disease will host the 4th Annual Lyme Disease Awareness Conference from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Telstar Regional High School.
Diane Farnum of Roxbury and Rhonda Buker of Newry said they came up with the idea for a conference after a friend from New Hampshire organized one. Over the past four years, hundreds of people have met to hear doctors and other experts speak on the disease.
Opening remarks begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by a lecture titled “Lyme Basics” by Maine resident Dr. Bea Szantyr.
At 11:20 a.m., Dr. Alan MacDonald, a Lyme disease researcher, will deliver a lecture titled “Bb Research.” It will be via satellite.
From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Maine humorist Gary Crocker will speak during a segment called “Laughter Is the Best Medicine.”
From 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., Dr. Charles Ray Jones will speak about Lyme disease and its effect on children.
Lunch will be provided throughout the afternoon by Crossroads Diner of Bethel.
A $10 donation at the door is appreciated. Those who wish to attend can preregister by emailing [email protected].
