FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Animal Shelter is challenging community members to help Empty the Shelter, a free adoption program Saturday, Sept. 12.

The shelter will waive adoption fees for adult cats from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday to help find permanent, loving homes for the many cats in its care while making room for incoming animals.

Cats, which normally cost $75 to adopt, will be free Saturday. The cats will go home spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and treated for fleas and worms.

As of closing on Wednesday, there were more than 60 adult cats ready for adoption.

Dogs who have been at the shelter for longer than a month will also have their adoption fees cut by $50.

For more information, visit the shelter online at www.fcanimalshelter.org or call 207-778-2638.
