The crowds at the head of Lisbon street during the Labor Day parade were about as large as ever seen in the city. The sidewalks were jammed. The curbs were overrun and all along Main street there was a double line of people packed into the area on the northwest side of the car-tracks, leaving scarcely room enough for the big teams in the procession to pass thru and crowding so closely on the tracks that the motorman had great difficulty in pushing along their cars without running into the people’s heels and backs. (PHOTO CAPTION) SQUARE AND COMPASS CLUB RENOVATIONS — Extensive outside renovations at the Androscoggin Valley Square and Compass Club building, 50 Elm St., Auburn, were completed this week, and members of the club will get their first look at the results next Wednesday when meetings resume following the summer recess. Cedar shake siding was applied to the building, and the roof was repaired. A new sign is expected to be installed soon. The inside of the building was also brightened up a bit. The project was carried out under the direction of President Howard Johnson of Greene.

For a quarter of a century, Norman Geller and his congregation in Auburn have been all but synonymous. “I’m not interested in being a rabbi,” Geller said Friday. “I’m interested in being Beth Abraham’s rabbi. These are my people. The congregation is my extended family.” On Sunday the congregation held a 25th anniversary brunch for Geller in the vestry of the synagogue.
