BRIDGTON — The late summer is a perfect time to hit the road and trails to support local land conservation. The quiet and scenic trails and roads of western Maine are what the Loon Echo Trek offers participants who hike or ride for this good cause.
The trek is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Shawnee Peak, and registration will be accepted the day of the event. Discounted early registration ends Sunday, Sept. 13.
This popular annual benefit for Loon Echo Land Trust attracts hundreds of people from across New England and beyond and offers something for everyone. Cycle over roads offering breathtaking views of farm fields, lakes and mountains or enjoy a hike over Pleasant Mountain. The Loon Echo Trek offers 25, 50, 75 or 100 mile rides and 4.5 and 6 mile hikes, all of which include some of the best scenery New England has to offer. The Trek is one of Maine’s greatest late summer events.
After finishing, all hikers and cyclists are treated to free Allagash beer, massages by Freedom Day Spa, live music from Crooked River Rough Cut, and a BBQ meal served up by Shawnee Peak’s Blizzards Pub. It’s the perfect way to celebrate your Trek.
Loon Echo Land Trust protects over 6,000 acres of land in the northern Sebago lakes region. Executive Director Carrie Walia says she looks forward to the Trek every year. “It’s wonderful to share such an amazing day outside with so many people who care about land conservation. The Trek also funds a significant portion of our annual operating budget, which allows staff to identify and negotiate new land purchases.”
