PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Three men accused of beating and kicking a 49-year-old man to death in his Portland apartment have been indicted on murder charges.
The Portland Press Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1M8s4sm ) the men have been in custody since Aug. 13.
The newspaper reports Freddy Akoa suffered 22 rib fractures from the Aug. 10 attack, cuts and bruises to his head and torso, and a lacerated liver.
A spokesman for the Maine Attorney General’s Office said Monday that the Cumberland County grand jury handed up the indictment Friday. A date for their arraignment has not been scheduled.
Authorities have not identified a motive for the attack, which police say went on for hours.
Each of them faces a minimum of 25 years and up to life in prison if convicted.
