WALES — Britanney Marquis netted a pair of goals as Oak Hill sailed to a 5-2 victory over Winthrop in girls’ soccer action Thursday afternoon.
The Raiders (3-2) led 1-0 at intermission. Jamie Prue and Halee Lair scored a goal and an assist each for Oak Hill.
Sierra Huff scored both of the Ramblers’ goals on breakaways.
Goalie Shie Smith collected an impressive 28 saves for Winthrop, while goalies Anna Dodge and Cassidy Tibbetts only needed one save each for Oak Hill in the winning effort.
Monmouth 8, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Haley Fletcher scored a hat trick as Monmouth galloped to an 8-0 shutout victory over Drigio in girls’ soccer action Thursday.
The Mustangs led 4-0 at the half. Sidney Wilson contributed two goals for Monmouth.
The Cougars were kept to just three shots, while Monmouth collected a package of 32 shots in the winning effort.
Lincoln Academy 4, Spruce Mountain 0
JAY — Brie Wajer scored on a break away just one minute into the game as Lincoln Academy went on to secure a 4-0 victory over Spruce Mountain in girls’ soccer action Thursday.
Chloe Hallowell scored three tallies in the second half for the Eagles.
Goalie Amber Delaney made 14 saves, while goalie Calley Baker stopped seven for the Pheonix.
Goalie Kortney McKenna drove back 12 shots to earn the win in net for Lincoln Academy.
Buckfield 1, Rangeley 0
RANGELEY — Senior striker Tabea Vatthauer notched the game’s only goal as Buckfield edged Rangeley 1-0 in girls’ soccer action Thursday.
The Bucks (4-0) were strong at midfield, and the offensive strength eventually paid off in the second half as Vatthauer drove the ball into the back of the net.
Goalie Sydney Royce made 18 saves for the Lakers (1-2), while goalie Hannah Shields thwarted 10 shots to earn the win in net for Buckfield.
Winslow 2, Maranacook 1
READFIELD — Paige Smith scored an unassisted goal early in the second half from 25 yards out to lift Winslow to a 2-1 victory over Maranacook in girls’ soccer action Thursday.
The Black Raiders (4-0-1) led 2-0 at the half. Desiree Veilleux streaked down the middle of the field for the first goal with 24:40 remaining in the first half.
Abby Despres cut the Winslow lead in half midway through the second half. But, the Black Bears (1-3) were unable to rally a second tally before time ran out.
Goalie Sierra Wilson made three saves for Maranacook, while goalie Hillary Libby shielded eight shots to earn the win in net for Winslow.
Boys’ soccer
Brunswick 6, Oxford Hills 0
PARIS — Keenan Welzel scored two goals as Brunswick cruised to a 6-0 shutout victory over Oxford Hills in boys’ soccer action Thursday afternoon.
The Dragons led 3-0 at the midpoint. Shane Lyons, Alex Reny, J.D. Souza and Henry Doherty rounded out the scoring for Brunswick.
Goalie Jake Beauchesne made 27 saves for the Vikings (0-6), while goalie Josh Dorr earned the win in net for Brunswick.
Two minutes later Danielle Aviani scored for the fifth game in a row and her team leading fifth goal of the season to provide the Black Bears a 4-1 lead.
Buckfield 4, Rangeley 1
RANGELEY — Senior forward Jonathan Randolph registered a pair of goals as Buckfield sank Rangeley 4-1 in boys’ soccer action Thursday.
Ethan Jackson put the first point on the board for the Bucks (4-0) on a penalty kick three minutes into the contest.
Junior striker Carl Trafton scored the equalizer before the half to keep the Lakers (1-2) within striking distance. But, Randolph hit two late goals to cement the win for Buckfield.
Goalie Hunter Lowell had 17 saves for Rangeley, while goalie Jacob Kraske repelled five shots to earn the win in net for Buckfield.
MCI 4, Leavitt 3
PITTSFIELD — Jason Song and Caleb Romanov cached a pair of goals each as Maine Central Institute inched past Leavitt, 4-3, in boys’ soccer action Thursday.
The Huskies led 2-1 at the midpoint.
Brian Hewitt, Joey Baumann and Noah Lind registered goals for the Hornets.
Goalie Lucas Perry made eight saves for Leavitt, while goalie Aiden Peacock turned away six shots for Maine Central Institute in the winning effort.
Field hockey
Hampden 2, Lewiston 1
HAMPDEN — Claire Scobie and Kelly Martin scored in the first half to lift Hampden to a 2-1 victory over Lewiston in field hockey action Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Devils (1-6) were scoreless in the first half, but managed to tally the only goal in the second half as Kasey Talarico found the back of the net with 27:03 remaining in regulation.
Goalie Kaylyn Labonte made 16 saves for Lewiston, while goalie Julia Ramsay stopped 13 to earn the win in net for the Broncos (3-3).
Cony 6, Oxford Hills 2
AUGUSTA — Delaney Keithley tabulated three goals and two assists as Cony dispatched Oxford Hills 6-2 in field hockey action Thursday afternoon.
The Rams took a 3-1 lead into the break.
Bailey Wood scored the first half goal for the Vikings, while Emma Davidson tallied the second half goal.
Goalie Anna Huff made six saves for Oxford Hills, while goalie Jessica Lee prevented eight shots to earn the win in net for Cony.
Spruce Mountain 4, Oceanside 1
ROCKLAND — Spruce Mountain punched in three goals in the second half as the Phoenix dropped Oceanside with a 4-1 victory in Thursday’s field hockey game.
Spruce Mountain got on the board first with a goal from Emily Hogan in the first half. Morgan Dalton was credited with the assist.
Alex Bessey used a Megan Fowler feed and scored, giving the Phoenix (5-2) a 2-0 lead in the second half. Oceanside answered with a goal from Alexis Mazuric.
Spruce Moutain came up with two more goals when Kaylee Leclerc scored on a penalty stroke and Julianne Doiron dropped in the Phoenix’s fourth goal on a feed from Sadie Storer. Spruce Mountain goalie Grace Ryan made seven saves.
College field hockey
Maine 4, Quinnipiac 1
HAMDEN, Conn. — The University of Maine field hockey team earned its sixth win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Thursday afternoon.
Emma Cochran started the game in goal for the Black Bears (6-1), and was able to stop three shots to improve her record to 5-0 on the year.
Marissa Shaw scored the first goal of the game, her fourth of the season, coming off of an assist from Ella Mosky to give Maine a 1-0 lead.
Late in the first half, Meghan McCullough scored the equalizer for the Bobcats (1-6) to tie the score at 1-1 heading into the half.
Samantha Wagg scored 12 minutes into the second half to break the tie and give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead. Jessica Skillings scored next for her first tally of the year.
