LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education has received a grant to train workers for hundreds of new jobs at Argo Marketing Group.
The company is adding 300 positions with benefits at its Lewiston location within the next year resulting from a partnership with iYogi, a computer support-services business based in India.
The adult education program will offer training for people interested in working in the call center industry, including keyboarding, technology, critical reading and customer service skills.
The grant from the Maine Department of Education is for $63,800; training is planned to begin this fall.
“We are honored to be associated with this program and look forward to the positive impact to our industry and the other small businesses in the community,” Argo Marketing CEO Jason Levesque said in a prepared statement.
The initiative involves a partnership with the Lewiston CareerCenter, the Central Western Maine Workforce Investment Board, Central Maine Community College and Lewiston Adult Education.
“Employers are looking at new ways to recruit and train new hires and incumbent workers. Some are already exploring hiring from talent pools they may not have previously considered. The LAE Integrated Education and Training pilot is a perfect example of using a collaborative approach between businesses, the CareerCenter and Adult Education to help meet labor needs of businesses,” Lewiston CareerCenter manager Mary LaFontaine said.
Anyone with questions about the training and signups should contact Lewiston CareerCenter at 207-753-9001.
