POLAND — The stage in the Maine Inn Dining Room at Poland Spring Resort will ring with popular Maine folk music at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
Dave Rowe, Squid Jiggers and Half Moon Jug Band will join forces for a no-holds-barred folk music event.
Dave Rowe, an Auburn native, is the son of a member of the popular folk trio Schooner Fare. He joined the group at the age of 15. Now, with 13 critically-acclaimed recordings under his belt, the concert brings him to the stage where his parents performed together for an entire summer as newlyweds.
The Squid Jiggers is comprised of Rowe and Troy R. Bennett. They specialize in a familiar brand of Maine folk music and maritime music. Bennett grew up collecting Schooner Fare ticket stubs and albums. He started his professional folk music career touring with the Portland, Maine Irish band, Rakish Paddy, which led him to traveling Europe with his guitar, and studying Anglo-Irish literature at University College Galway and the University of Southern Maine.
On his return to the states, he started Half Moon Jug Band, a high-octane folk group specializing in new uses for kazoos and banjos. In 2010, he and Rowe joined forces to become the Squid Jiggers.
The Half Moon Jug Band started as a merry band of sidewalk subversives entertaining on Exchange Street in Portland more than 15 years ago. Now, they play concerts and festivals all over the Northeast.
The Oct. 3 concert will include new songs and a sneak peek at some of the music from the Half Moon Jug Band’s CD to be released in November.
Tickets are $16 and may be purchased by calling the inn at 207-998-4351, online by visiting www.polandspringinns.com/shows.html, and at the door on a first-come basis. A full buffet before the show is also available for an additional $10.
