HALLOWELL — Hallowell Gallery, 160 Water St., is accepting exhibition proposals for consideration by the Exhibition Committee.

The meets at least twice annually, in April-May and in October-November. Proposals must be submitted before April 1 or Oct. 1 to be considered at the respective meeting.

The Harlow Gallery is dedicated to supporting Maine artists by providing exhibition space, arts education and other artist opportunities. Its mission is to connect and celebrate art, artists and community.

Any artist or group may submit a proposal for an exhibition, but members are especially encouraged to submit proposals. Proposals are initially ranked by certain criteria and current membership is one of them, followed by Maine residency or having a strong connection to the state.

All art forms are welcome, and all media, including sculpture, photography and fine crafts. The Exhibition Committee welcomes proposals involving contemporary art, performance art, experimental art, cross-disciplinary art and conceptual art.

Work should be original, completed within five years of the exhibition proposed, except in the case of retrospectives, and should not have been recently exhibited elsewhere in central Maine.

Exhibition space is used for a variety of events such as meetings, figure drawing session, movie nights and fundraisers. That must be kept in mind when planning and installing exhibitions.

To submit a proposal or to obtain a FAQ sheet, go to harlowgallery.org or call 207-622-3813.
