FARMINGTON — Children and 4-H members entered in the Youth Market Auction Program showed their animals at the Farmington Fair on Wednesday.

First up were the market hogs, and Nicholas Rowe’s pig was named Grand Champion in the heavyweight class. A hog shown by Mason Rowe placed second and was named Reserve Grand Champion. Kaden Lane’s hog placed third in the heavyweight class, while Madison Lane’s lightweight pig earned a blue ribbon.

In the Market Lamb division, 12 youths entered showmanship classes. Kristen Davis won Senior Showmanship; Madison White earned a blue ribbon in the Intermediate Showmanship Class; Amber Smith won Junior Showmanship; and Samantha Davis won in the Novice Class.

The Novice Class included Jack Sullivan, Natalee Orr, Alexis Meisner and Caleb Fitch.

Amy McGee judged all of the classes. She was impressed with the quality of all those competing and selected Amber Smith as Champion Showman.

The 12 lambs were broken into classes by weight. Natalie Orr, Alexis Meisner, Jack Sullivan and Nicholas Rowe showed lambs in the lightweight class. Orr’s lamb took first place, Rowe’s came in second, Meisner’s placed third and Sullivan’s lamb finished fourth.

In the heavyweight division, Mason Rowe’s lamb took first place, while second went to Samantha Davis. Kaden Lane placed third, and Madison White claimed fourth place.

McGee noted that the latter class was the most difficult to sort through. She said she was impressed with the muscling and substance of all of the lambs shown.

Before selecting the champion lambs, McGee spoke of the Youth Market Auction scheduled Friday night. A time to meet the youths who raised and cared for the animals will begin at 6 p.m. with the auction starting at 6:30 p.m.

“These kids are doing something positive with these animals. It’s important for you to come out and support them. Bid a couple of times even if you don’t take a lamb home,” she said.

McGee selected Mason Rowe’s lamb as Grand Champion Market Lamb, and Reserve Grand Champion went to Samantha Davis. Highly Commended went to Kaden Lane and Natalee Orr’s lamb was selected as the Commended Market Lamb.
