JAY – The North Jay Water District has issued a boil-water order, effective until further notice.
The order follows a break in a waterline Thursday morning, which was repaired by midafternoon, according to a news release from the Water District. Representatives made every attempt to contact all customers involved.
Customers from the trestle on Old Jay Hill Road, south to Woodman Hill are affected and need to boil their water for one minute, Superintendent Mikes Wells said. That includes water they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes.
The district is required to bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E. coli and coliform bacteria. The district will announce when customers can stop boiling water.
