FARMINGTON — Police said a Monticello man was arrested Sunday on a charge of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon after he took his foot off the brake of his truck and it moved forward toward another person.
Scott Bryant, 51, came to Franklin Avenue to bring a child home, according to a report filed by Farmington officer Darin Gilbert. Bryant is a relative authorized by the parents to pick up and leave the child, according to Farmington police.
During the drop-off, tempers flared between Bryant and another person, police said, declining to comment on the details of the exchange.
Bryant came very close to hitting the other person with his vehicle, according to Gilbert’s report; no contact was made and no one was hurt in the 2:15 p.m. incident.
Bryant then went to the police station, also on Franklin Avenue, to explain the incident it to an officer. Bryant told police the truck was idling when he took his foot off the brake and it rolled, according to police.
The other person was standing outside the door of their home and claimed the vehicle lunged at them quite fast, police said.
Police found dirt disturbed and tire marks in the driveway. After police measured the distance between the tire marks and the door where the person stood, Bryant was charged and arrested.
Police declined to release more details about the incident.
Bryant was taken to Franklin County Detention Center, where he was released later on Sunday on $250 cash bail, according to a jail officer.
