SOUTH CHINA — Kaitlyn Leclerc converted a cross from Ashley Mathieu in the second half to lift Leavitt to a 1-0 victory over Erskine Academy in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (7-4) overpowered the Eagles on offense as Chantel Eells, Alana Hartford and Kaitlyn Deblois controlled the middle of the field and defensive end.

Spruce Mountain 10, Maranacook 0

JAY — Spruce Mountain (7-4) took a 2-0 lead in the first half and unloaded eight more goals in the second, dropping Maranacook (1-9-1) with a 10-0 victory in a field hockey game Saturday.

Emily Hogan, Alex Bessey, Sadie Storer, Kaylee Leclerc and Alex Beardsley each scored two goals.

The Phoenix outshot Maranacook 38-10. Grace Ryan made 10 saves for the Phoenix.

Oak Hill 5, Hall-Dale 1

FARMINGDALE — Kylee Veilleux scored a pair of goals, leading Oak Hill to a 5-1 victory over Hall-Dale in a field hockey game Saturday.

The Raiders too 2-0 lead at the half. Hayden Spencer, Abby Asselin and Lexi Faucher each scored a goal for the Raiders (8-4). Erika Hannigan, Veilleux, Spencer and Zoe Buteau each earned assists.

For the winless Bulldogs (0-11), Haley Houdlette scored a goal.

Gray-New Gloucester 7, Wells 1

GRAY — Emily Dawkins and Laurel Thomas netted two goals each as Gray-New Gloucester glided to a 7-1 victory over Wells in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

The Patriots (5-4-1) took a 4-3 lead at halftime. Emma Woods contributed a goal and two assists.

Hannah Cottis spoiled the shutout win a goal in the second half for the Warriors (2-7).

Goalie Lauren Bartlett made nine saves for Wells, while goalie Jen Sutherland fended off a pair of shots to earn the win in net for Gray-New Gloucester.

Hall-Dale 3, Dirigo 1

DIXFIELD — Josh Berberich booted the eventual game-winning goal with 12:45 remaining in the first half to propel Hall-Dale to a 3-1 victory over Dirigo in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

The Bulldgos led 2-0 at the half on goals from Ryan Sinclair and Berberich. Alex Roberts-Poulin put Hall-Dale on top 3-0 early in the second half.

Jeremy St. Germain converted a direct kick with eight minutes remaining in regulation to prevent the shutout for the Cougars.

Goalie Justin Grignon made 12 saves for Dirigo, while Andy Peterson stopped five to earn the win in net for Hall-Dale.

Poland 5, Lake Region 1

POLAND — Patrick Kuklinski netted two goals in rapid succession to start the second half and catapult Poland to a 5-1 triumph over Lake Region in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

Kyle Radziszewski evened the score at 1-1 for the Knights (3-4-1) directly from a corner kick at 28:08 in the first half.

Elijah Levesque scored the only Lakers (0-9) goal at 34:54 of the first half to put Lake Region up 1-0 early in the contest.

Goalies Matt Stenger and Chrstiopher Ferguson combined for seven saves for Lake Region, while goalie Tim Flint repelled two to earn the win in net for Poland.

Cape Elizabeth 3, Gray-New Gloucester 1

GRAY — Connor Thoreck scored two goals as Cape Elizabeth upended Gray-New Gloucester in WMC boys’ soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Capers (5-4-1) scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of play and held on the rest of the way.

Senior midfielder Brady Darnell tallied the lone Patriots (7-3-1) goal.

Goalie John Henry Villanueva made 10 shots for Gray-New Gloucester, while goalie Marshal Petersen prevented four for Cape Elizabeth in the winning effort.

College field hockey

Bates 2, Trinity 0

LEWISTON — Shannon Beaton scored near the beginning of both halves as Bates College won for the fourth time in five games, 2-0, over Trinity College on Homecoming Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (4-3) outshot Trinity by a 12-9 margin and held off a late charge by the Bantams, who accumulated five penalty corners in the final six minutes, but couldn’t convert.

Goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick made five saves for Trinity, while Christina Vega prevented four to post her first shutout of the season.

Women’s soccer

Colby-Sawyer 3, UMaine-Farmington 0

NEW LONDOND, N.H. — Kelsey Campbell recorded a pair of goals as Colby-Sawyer coasted to a 3-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in women’s NAC soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Lizzy Jorgensen scored an unassisted tally in the 59th minute to give the Chargers a cushion down the stretch.

Goalie Sam Hatch made four saves in the first 64 minutes of action for the Beavers (2-6-1). Kiana Thompson made her first career appearance in goal in a relief effort for Farmington, saving all six shots that came her way.

Men’s soccer

Colby-Sawyer 3, UMaine-Farmington 0

NEW LONDON, N.H. — Sophomore Denali Sexton scored a pair of goals as Colby Sawyer College sailed to a 3-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in NAC men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers (5-5) jumped out to an early lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest with a pair of goals from Sexton. Freshman Bryce Schultz charted the final goal of the game in the 29th minute with Sexton contributing the assist.

Goalie Matt Wilson stopped five shots for the Beavers (3-4-1) in the losing effort.
