LEWISTON — Kirk Sahagian, D.O., a bariatric surgeon, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff. He is practicing with Central Maine Bariatric Surgery in Lewiston.

Sahagian has extensive surgical experience, beginning as a staff surgeon at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Ft. Campbell, Ky., in 2007. After serving as a general and trauma surgeon with the U.S. Army in Bagram, Afghanistan, he returned to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital where he worked as a general surgeon and medical director of the bariatric surgery program from 2008 to 2009.

Between 2009 and 2010, he served with the 28th Combat Support Hospital, providing medical care in Talil, Iraq, before returning once again to Ft. Campbell. From then until earlier this year, Sahagian served on staff at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn., working as a surgeon, as medical director of the bariatric surgery program and, more recently, as vice chairman of the hospital’s surgical department.

Sahagian is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and, since 2005, has been a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
