SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford County Educators Association-Retired will meet on Friday, Oct. 23, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. Sign-ins will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting.
A meal will be provided by members of the church and a program presented by Karen Ricci, who will discuss “People and Animals” and will explore the practice of reiki, a form of alternative medicine.
The October meeting is an important event because it involves the two major fundraising activities of the group. The annual pie sale will take place. Apple pies are being sold for $10. Anyone who wants to order a pie can do so by calling Buffy Nason at 207-539-2518.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, volunteers from OCEA-R will gather to peel apples and prepare for the sale on Friday. Any members who want to help should be at the First Congregational Church in South Paris at 9 a.m.
The second fundraiser will be the annual calendar raffle, and it will be handed out at the October meeting. Donations from the calendar should be handed in at the meeting at the Locke Mills Legion Hall on Friday, Nov. 20.
Proceeds from the fundraisers will be used to provide scholarships for Oxford County students when they begin their postsecondary educations.
The September meeting was held at the West Paris Universalist Church. The group was pleased with the warm welcome they received and the dinner provided by church members.
The program was a talk by Emily and Chris MacCabe of Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
