LEWISTON — A Bethel man involved in a head-on crash that killed a woman there Friday made his first court appearance Monday afternoon, entering pleas of not guilty to two charges not directly connected to the accident.
Jason Heath, 29, was arraigned via videoconference at 8th District Court on Monday afternoon, pleading not guilty to unlawful possession of drugs and violation of bail conditions. The judge set bail at $10,000 cash.
Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said Heath was the driver of a vehicle in a head-on collision near Intervale and East Bethel roads that claimed the life of 47-year-old Susan Isham of Bethel.
Gallant said the cause of the crash in under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
Cpl. George Cayer of Oxford County Sheriff’s Office arrested Heath at about 10 p.m. Friday at Rumford Hospital after a small amount of heroin was found in his vehicle at the time of the collision, according to WCSH6-TV of Portland.
Prosecutors were not present at the arraignment, but left their written recommendations for the judge.
Heath remained at the Oxford County Jail in Paris on Monday night. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 15.
