DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen will vote next week on a maintenance agreement for a traffic light replacement at Route 2 and Weld Street.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in Ludden Memorial Library. It was rescheduled from Oct. 13 because of a lack of a quorum.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said the Maine Department of Transportation will replace the traffic light in the coming months. The board towns must sign a maintenance agreement with the MDOT.
“From what I gather, this is a scheduled update, and part of the DOT replacing the traffic signal is that they ask if the town is willing to pay for the electric bill and the maintenance,” Puiia said. “It’s just part of signing the maintenance agreement and having the work done.”
The board will also discuss the next steps of the Safe Routes to School project.
In early 2013, the town agreed to build 3,500 feet of sidewalk from Dirigo High School to T.W. Kelly Dirigo Middle School, and construct a sidewalk the length of Nash Street to the Regional School Unit 10 superintendent’s building. The cost would be split 80-20 between the town and the Maine Department of Transportation.
The Nash Street sidewalk project was abandoned last month because the $68,201 cost was considered too high.
During a special town meeting on Oct. 1, residents overwhelmingly voted against appropriating $46,850 from surplus as a 20 percent match for the Weld Street sidewalk.
Puiia said that before the meeting, the board will present the Boston Post Cane to the oldest citizen of Dixfield.
