PARIS — Police said a raid at a home on Gary Street on Oct. 20 netted 28 grams of heroin and two men, who were charged with dealing the drug.

Frederick Ryan, 37, of 89 Gary St. in Paris and Shawn Estabrook, 36, of 305 Ahonen Road in Otisfield were taken into custody and booked at the Oxford County Jail in Paris, police said.

“We had information that Estabrook was living with Ryan,” Norway police Investigator Jeff Campbell said. “There was a warrant out for Estabrook. We also had information that they were trafficking and both were on probation.”

Officers from Norway, Paris and Oxford police departments, and agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency raided Ryan’s house and found 14 grams of heroin on Estabrook and another 14 grams in the house, Campbell said.

Ryan was charged with aggravated drug trafficking and a probation violation. Because his home is within 265 feet of School Administrative District 17’s Gouin Field athletic complex, which is a drug-free zone, the drug charge is a Class A felony, police said.

Class A crimes are punishable by up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine.

Estabrook was charged with drug trafficking/furnishing and a probation violation.

Both men were being held without bail and were taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland on Oct. 21, a corrections officer said.

The raid comes more than two months after the Western Maine Addiction Task Force was formed to combat the increasing number of heroin overdoes and deaths.

The task force is a collaborative group of federal, state, county and local government and law enforcement officials, private organizations, community nonprofits and concerned citizens, according to a news release from the Paris Police Department announcing formation of the task force.
