ORRINGTON (AP) — A python that was returned to its Maine owner after going missing for more than three months has died.

Owner Valerie Nason told WGME-TV (http://bit.ly/1R08kc5 ) her 4-foot-long python Mr. Smithers died Thursday morning. He had been scheduled to see a veterinarian on Monday.

The snake was found two doors away last week at an Orrington greenhouse after slithering away in July. The ball python was barely responsive when he was found. Nason says he never recovered from several frosts, among other challenges.

She said he would not eat or drink once he was returned and attempts to force feed him raw egg were unsuccessful.
