FARMINGTON — Kenny Brechner of Devaney, Doak and Garrett Booksellers, an independently owned bookstore in Farmington, was honored with the Business Friend of Education Award by the Maine School Boards Association on Oct. 23.

The award was given to Brechner by MSBA President Becky Fles at the Maine School Management Association’s annual fall conference in Augusta before an audience of school board members and superintendents from across the state.

The Women’s National Book Association in 2014 awarded Brechner its Pannell award for “stimulating, promoting and encouraging” children and young adults to read.

Brechner and his store were nominated by the Oakland-based Regional School Unit 18 board.
