UNITY (AP) — Officials at Unity College in Maine are launching a $6 million campus expansion with a new residence hall and energy-efficient academic building.
Dr. Melik Peter Khoury, the college’s president-elect, says the move aims to support students who chose the private, liberal arts college to pursue a career in green industries.
Officials say it will also help meet student demand. Unity currently enrolls about 600 students and applications for admission have increased more than 100 percent since 2012.
The school has already built two additional dorms over the past two years as the student body continues to grow.
The expansion is expected to start as early as late December and be completed by the start of the 2016-17 school year.
