LEWISTON — The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce is hosting another in the LA Law advisory workshop series from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the chamber, 415 Lisbon St., Lewiston. The topic is “The Incapacitated or Dead Business Owner: Who Runs the Business Then?”
Presenter Jill Checkoway of Skelton, Taintor & Abbott will give an overview of the basic legal documents that can keep the business going in the short term if the owner becomes incapacitated or dies.
The presentation will focus on the benefits of well-drawn financial powers of attorney if the owner become incapacitated. It will also cover specific will and probate code provisions and the probate process once the owner dies, covering the intermediate stages before the owner’s business is transferred to his intended beneficiaries or sold.
