PORTLAND — A Massachusetts man was convicted Tuesday on a drug charge in connection with a 2014 bust in Auburn.
Jean Valbrun, 27, of Mattapan, Mass., was found guilty by a jury in U.S. District Court in Portland of possession with intent to distribute heroin and crack.
On March 16, 2014, law enforcement officers seized 225 grams of heroin and 106 grams of crack from a vehicle driven by Valbrun at a gas station in Auburn.
He faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million. He is expected to be sentenced after the preparation of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
Investigators with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Auburn and Lewiston police departments handled the case. The investigation was part of an ongoing effort of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, a partnership between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
The principal mission of the OCDETF program is to identify, disrupt and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking and money laundering organizations, and those primarily responsible for the nation’s illegal drug supply, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II wrote in a prepared statement.
