With total holiday spending estimated to reach $630.5 billion this year, the personal finance website WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2015’s best and worst retailers for Black Friday deals.
WalletHub said it surveyed 8,000 deals from 30 of the biggest U.S. retailers’ 2015 Black Friday ads to show which retailers offered the largest advertised discounts in 2015. According to WalletHub, the top 10 and their overall discounts are:
J.C. Penney has the highest overall discount at 68 percent; Costco has the lowest at 20 percent.
Jewelry is the most discounted category at 73 percent, whereas computers and phones are the least discounted at 31 percent.
The overall average discount for Black Friday is 40 percent. Consumers should aim for this or a greater discount to avoid Black Friday traps.
The toy category has the biggest number of discounted items, representing 23 percent of all offers. The consumer packaged goods category has the smallest, with only 1.4 percent of all offers.
