AUBURN — Police shut down north and southbound traffic on Washington Street early Friday night after a commuter-hour wreck left a New Gloucester woman hospitalized.
Police said Linette Dehetre, 51, was headed south on Washington Street at about 6 p.m. when a vehicle being driven the other way veered over the centerline.
Dehetre swerved but the vehicles collided, police said, causing Dehetre’s Ford Escape to roll onto its side against a guardrail.
Emergency crews freed Dehetre from her vehicle and took her to a Lewiston hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
In the second vehicle, a GMC Envoy, police said 19-year-old D.J. Levasseur was headed north on Washington Street, near Poland Spring Road, when she veered into oncoming traffic.
Levasseur and her three passengers did not require medical treatment, police said. Auburn police were investigating later Friday to determine what caused Levasseur to lose control of her vehicle.
Police shut down sections of Washington Street on both sides as emergency crews responded and cleanup began. The road was reopened to traffic later Friday night.
