LIVERMORE — Administrative Assistant Carrie Castonguay told the Board of Selectpersons on Monday night that while washing one of the town’s trucks over the weekend, an employee discovered a broken waterline at the Town Office.
A toilet ran all weekend and drained the well, she said.
A representative from Goodwin Well & Water Inc. of Turner checked the system Monday. The pump is still good but it appears that there is a leak in the waterline from the well to the Town Office.
Board Chairman Peter Castonguay said the well is beside the flag pole. The line is at least 4 feet under the pavement.
The board agreed to ask Goodwin to see if a smaller line could be run inside the present line.
“It might get us through the frost season anyway,” Selectperson Tom Gould said.
If that can’t be done, the board agreed to have Castonguay coordinate a time for Richard Crocker, who does excavation work, and Goodwin to dig up the line and repair it.
The board also agreed to lock in a price of $1.35 for propane fuel for the furnace at the highway garage. Because it’s a new system, it’s not known how much propane will be needed. Castonguay said the price for propane on Monday was $1.25.
Gould said, “It is a gamble no matter what we do. I suggest locking in the price before it goes up to $4 per gallon and makes us look foolish.”
