1948 – 2015

ALAJUELA, Costa Rica — John Kent Vickery, 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, after a short illness, at his home in Costa Rica.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 11, 1948, to Frank M. Vickery Jr. and Marie H. (Harper) Vickery. He attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1966.

Shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Army. He served at many bases, including in Louisiana, Texas, Virgina, Washington, Vietnam and Germany.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for Allied Container, which became Union Camp and is now known as International Paper. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Costa Rica, where they have lived since.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn and VFW Post 1603 in Auburn.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Vickery of Auburn; his wife of 33 years, Brenda; two daughters, Ann and her three children of Oxford, and Jennifer and her husband, Ron, of Lewiston; son, Carl and his wife, Beth, of Auburn; and a brother in Poland.

He was predeceased by his father, Frank, in 1983.
